World Champ results recap

IISA Admin, 11 January 2017

Dear all frozen ones,

The 2nd World Champ come and gone and we are all still reeling from the ICY excitement. Needless to say, it was a world class event from all aspects.

Like everything in life, nothing is perfect, but we learn and grow from every experience, and the ICE is no different. I have charted few issues here, please read it carefully and share it.

IISA Website and FB page have become the prime portal of communication with the Swimmers. As a Swimmer, Official or supporter, please make sure you read the announcements as they refer to rules,  news and updates. As a Country Federation President, please share each IISA FB or News flash on your country portal. There are too many for me to do it myself. You are also welcome to publish regularly on your Country FB Page/Group. Lack of understanding the Rules will become a critical factor in entries, qualifying and verifying results.

 Some Issues:

  1. World Champ results
    1. There has been several small mistakes in the results
    2. The main issue was calculating the Swimmer Age for the Age Group allocation.
    3. We have sorted it out now. IISA Website results override any other results so please accept apology from event organisers if your age group results were wrong. So far we have found only 3 issues.
    4. The Swimmer Age Group is calculated by his/her age in current year end.
      1. If you are were born in Feb 1977 and you 39y now, you are considered to be Age Group 40-44 through out all events in 2017.
    5. World Records
      1. We have several Records:
      2. AR – Age Group Record – this is a World Record in your Age Group
        1. AR is automatically an Event Record (ER) as well.
      3. ER – Event Record - this is a record in your Age Group only for this Event
      4. WC – World Champ Record – a Championship Record
        1. This is automatically an ER as well
      5. WR – This is a World Record. It doesn’t consider your age but only your result.
        1. A WR is automatically ER and AR records
      6. Swimmers are welcome to publish their achievements, please make sure you scan your results carefully (on IISA Site) and claim them correctly.
    6. Entries
      1. We had several issues with Swimmers not entering via IISA Event site. In the future, if you haven’t entered correctly on IISA site, your record will not appear anywhere. Even if you have managed to swim in an Event and get your results there.
    7. IISA Officials
      1. Congratulation to new IISA Officials
        1. I have lost the first course list in the ICE :(
        2. Please send me your name if you have participated in the first course – ram.iceswimming@gmail.com (I do have the group pic to verify this)
      2. We will run further courses this year –
        1. GB, Ireland France and possibly more.
        2. Please contact your Country Chair ASAP to enquire about dates and location. They will all happen in Feb-2017
  • The first course fees were EUR 10 (down from 50) the ongoing courses fees will be GBP 25 or EUR 30. It is still cheap comparing to the costs of travelling around and making them happen.
  1. These courses are critical to IISA growth. They will become mandatory and the waiting list will be very long, just like any growing sport. Better do it sooner than later.
  1. Next World Champ – will be announced in the next two months
  2. IISA ICE CUP – to allow for promotion of the new ICE CUP IISA has decided to do away with the fees to IISA. Country Chair, Event organisers – please note that swimmers are requesting about your events regarding IISA ICE CUP.

Again, well done to all, an event such as the World Cup takes around 2 years to create. Many ups and downs, resources funds and training. But like our swims, it all comes to a final awesome outcome of swimming in the ICE.

We are already working on the next world Champ….

See you all in the ICE
